Eco-ntemporary living: Green up your House, the modern way!

Individual thinking and Inspiration

Individual thinking is a personal thought that can be developed by one’s past, surrounding environment, family, friends and personal experience. Normally, it takes long time to develop and has certain degree of subjective opinion.

Inspiration is one kind of thought, feeling, meaning brought by a person or group of person, surrounding environment, words and pictures. Sometime, inspiration comes not only from related issues, but also from personal emotion and thought.

Group process
Group process is a pool collecting rounds of outcomes from every individual thinking and inspiration. An appropriate group process can also facilitate creation, adjust different suggestions and alternatives, and solve conflict and contradiction.

Individual thinking and inspiration together with group process
Now, we would like to use the group process of our group as an example when we were discussing our second material – newspaper.

Stage 1, after the second material has been confirmed, we need to brainstorm some creative ideas by individual before our group meeting. In order to have some insight, we did different approaches to prepare. Some was going to ask their family, friend, and some was going to have some research on internet, newspaper and library. Some was using their past experience in other lessons or activities or directly brainstorming the new uses.
Stage 2, after brainstorming ideas by individuals, we would like to present and explain our ideas to teammates on the meeting.
Stage 3, we analyze the benefits and constraints from each ideas or further develop some creative ideas. For example: we all agreed that using newspaper to clean our shoes when it is a rainy day. Because it can reuse the old newspaper for environment friendly purpose and can shine our shoes. However, the constraint is that it can apply to black leather shoes.
Stage 4, we understand teammates’ point of view and integrate our stands and ideas to conclude our direction and consensus. Sometime, we need to solve conflicts and contradiction.
Stage 5, we find out all the best alternatives.

]

There is a simple group process. We can see that the whole group process is mainly to generalize different ideas and thought form individual thinking of each teammate at the beginning. Then integrate or further develop our ideas. And finally seek our consensus and find out our best alternative.

Our example implies the connection between individual thinking and inspiration and group process in our creativity journey. It shows that we can group process is a collective pool which collect our ideas to generate creativity through the group effort during the process. This can really facilitate our creativity thinking and broaden our views.

Inhibitors of creativity
Inhibitors of creativity are blocks to creativity which can interrupt individuals or groups of inspiration, brainstorming and creation. Normally, blocks to creativity can be contributed to two aspects, environmental and cultural.

Environmental blocks to creativity:
1 Physical environment
Physical environment provides space, furnishings, lighting, atmosphere, sound, odor, safety, and comforts of adequate quality. Over intrusion of physical environment by people or things will inhibit creativity. For example: How can you create your ideas when you are under -1℃environment without any protection?
2 Lack of cooperation in a group
Corporation is critical and essential to a group process of creativity. Those People who are unwilling to be considerate and adaptable will inhibit creativity process.
3 Dominant leaders
Everyone’s idea in the group should be considered fairly. Leader who are likely to dominant the whole process are not recommended in creativity process.
4 Lack of help
Resource is the starting point of creativity. A group who are under hunger, illness, and financial worries or lack of information, reference, professional support cannot ensure a creativity process will be ran in a proper way and come up with proper outcome.

Cultural blocks to creativity:
1 Fear
Fears are forms of insecurity. When an idea comes out, it must with certain benefit and risk. People who are unwilling to take any risk and are afraid of making any poor decision, are inhibitors to creativity. It is because they are unwilling to think out of the box in order to secure themselves. [1]
2 Inability to tolerate ambiguity
Creativity can always come from widely differing or incongruous ideas. Most of the time they are some ambiguous concept or idea in the beginning, those people who are unable to tolerate ambiguity may be the inhibitors to creativity because they may be unable to revise those ambiguous ideas to a new and real composition. [1]
3 Judgment rather than generation of ideas
People are likely to ensure their answer for security. Some people can even judge and analyze this idea or concept in an early stage of creativity process. This kind of action will inhibit generation of creativity because those new ideas and concept are retained by judgment before they are properly developed. [1]
4 Lack of motivation
People who are lack of motivation may not be enthusiastic in generation of ideas or joining in group discussion. This must inhibit creativity because the generator is less motivated in generation of creativity. [1]

Enablers of creativity

Enablers of creativity are the facilitation to creativity which facilitates groups of inspiration, brainstorming and creation. Normally, what enablers of creativity are likely to do can be divided in preparation and group organization.

Preparation:
1 Physical environment
Proper and comfort environment should be provided which facilitate the process of creation by reducing insecurity and unsafe feeling. [1]
2 Resource
Resource is the starting point of creativity. Sufficient resource should be prepared before the process, such as tools, facilities, space, information, technical help and professional assistant. [1]
3 Psychological preparation
Good psychological preparation can reduce the possibility of fails. Risk taking, problem solving, open and adaptive mind are required in the process of creativity. People with proper psychological preparation in it can reduce the feelings of fear, unsafe, and ambiguity. [1]

Group organization:
1 Cooperation in group
Cooperation is one critical element of teamwork. Proper cooperation can facilitate both efficiency and effectiveness of the process, and diversify the ideas in a wide and comprehensive way. [1]
2 Leadership and motivation
Each member in a team or group is the leader of the progress. All members have their right to present their ideas and analyze the process of creativity. Also, motivation is the responsibility of everyone, people who are not only required to motivate themselves, but also the whole group so as to maintain the team spirit and enthusiasm during the process. [1]

Management of creativity process
To capitalize the individual and group process and to reduce enablers, we have ideas in resource management and team management
Resource management
More resource can be provided, collected and distributed by the government or specific organization which facilitate the distribution of resource and allow people who are lack of resource can get proper assistance and help. Also, it gives a way for different organization and enterprise to provide help and resource.
Team management
The roles of team leader should be defined properly so as to avoid unbalance authority distribution and dominant leaders. Also, In order to develop a cooperative team, communication, team building and cultural workshops are suggested to be provided before a team is formed. This can facilitate the cooperation of the team and develop each member with an adaptive and self-motivated mind. Proper risk taking skills and problem solving skills can be obtained as well.

As our title mentioned, Green up your House. In the following part, we are going to introduce some reading inspired us for the “Creative Green House” ideas.

Action is louder than words -

What we are doing…Inspiring x Realizing x Reapplying

Practical way to inspire Creativity
Have you even considered how to inspire your creativity in a more practical way? There’s a pleasant idea you can found in the article titled “Keeping a Painting Creativity Journal” by Marion Boddy-evans [2] As the title mentioned, that practical way is keeping a painting creativity journal. You can experience several advantages by having a creativity journal.

It enable you to well organizing your ideas, inspiration and whatever new you come up with, keeping track on how your ideas expanding and developing as well as refreshing your brain. Additionally, you can always record your ideas immediately which you can make use of them whenever you need them. We recorded our creative ideas on this blog which is a tool that generate our inspiration and ideas in one spot.

We do hope that it can be one of the ways to inspire you, like how it inspires us on the idea of “Green House”. It inspired us because, it was because of that article a member of the project team referred back to his old art book and it helped him come up with the projects proposed idea, it can be said as a spark of inspiration.

Realization on Creativity
Creativity is not something that born with somebody, we can be either trained to unleash it or taught to repress it. As said by Jonathan Halls [3] of the article of “creativity: What is it?”It is the process of coming up with original ideas and putting them into action which consists of dreaming up ideas, selecting best idea and foremost making idea to be realistic.

For instance, if you have a fantastic idea for a drama, it will never to be true unless someone work for it. Got it? As what we have done on the Green up your House journey. After having the idea that household can make the world greener, we try to make our novel idea become reality. The products newspaper and plastic spoons are often used and thrown away but in reality, with a little creativity, they can be used for other purposes other than rubbish.

Reapplication of creativity
When we are talking about the reapplication, we are concerning on distancing ourselves from our used way of thinking. As Jonathan Hall [4] describes it, it’s being able to “submerge yourself beneath the surface of an accepted idea or practice and evaluate the very values on which that idea or practice is based”. It is not an easy thing to do, it opens up our possibilities.

The result of reapplying can be powerful which transforms an accepted idea into loads of new ideas. We used to believe that spoons are just a tool, a piece of cutlery used for eating, and newspapers are for reading the news. In order to open up possibilities through reapplying, we decided to reframe our perception on them and thought about reapplying them for other uses in a way that could change the mindsets of others.

We wanted to make something that will tell the audience that something that looks useless can be transformed into something that is contemporary and useful, it could be seen as more of a sculpture. Our idea of using the spoons to make a bowl will show that with a little creativity, saving the environment can be also be part of contemporary living.

The motif/theme is ‘Eco-temporary living’
As mentioned, the materials we used are newspaper and plastic spoons. Our group arrived at this motif because we thought that the two materials are things that we commonly waste without thinking. Newspaper and plastic spoon are popular items which could be easily be found around us whether it’s at home or at the school canteen, but people seldom pay attention to them.

People only used it once and never recycle or reuse it. For example the free newspaper in Hong Kong, people only read it once and will throw it away immediately. The plastic spoon used after BBQ or birthday party will be discarded after celebration. Our key motivator was watching everyone at our university canteen using the plastic cutleries and throwing them away after, this happens all the time and no one notices how many plastic cutleries is discarded.

This made us think about it’s effects on the environmental and how much of an impact it would have on the future of our world if everyone continued this way. Therefore, our group was inspired to act on this problem, we had to find a way to inspire people on how something so useless can be transformed into something useful or beautiful. Newspaper can have multiple uses which we usually ignore in our daily life, we wanted to surprise the audience with the number of uses newspaper can have other then reading, and plastic spoons is our initial weapon to convince and persuade the audience of how creativity can turn something so useless to something that can be seen as a contemporary object that can be used in the household.

In this way, the behaviors of the audience can change and become more sensitive to the things they use around them. With creativity, our everyday life could be full of eco-temporary ideas. Therefore, our theme is ‘Eco-temporary living’. This derived from the idea of trying to make living environmental friendly is a modern way of living, and it was also a way of making people think forward and how we should be living, contemporary and clean/green.

Metaphor: Greedy
Implication of ‘greedy’
1. Greedy = green daily. The word ‘Greedy’ can be viewed as the combination of the words ‘green’ and ‘daily’. It fits and represents our theme ‘everyday household green’. It implies green and environment ideas can permeate into our daily life. With creativity, we can use newspaper in multiple usages and turn plastic spoons into other usable objects. Since they are daily re-usable items which people always waste, we can in fact turn them into environmental friendly items.

2. The greedy nature of human being also represents our thinking process. General public and household are greedy because they use disposable items for the seek of convenience. They collect free newspaper just because they do not have to pay, even they will only read it briefly or even they have bought one. The greediness is shown in the increasing wastage of newspaper and disposable items which inspired our group to act.

3. One important thinking process of our group is we want to achieve a balance in our life, convenience and environmentally friendly. Some may say we are ‘greedy’ because convenience is somehow contradicted with environmentally friendly. It is quite difficult to maintain a balance between two. That is why we try to think other possibilities of the newspaper usage and create other objects with spoons.

Objects and ideas forgo
Our group forgoes the idea of using plastic spoons as accessories. At the beginning when we were brainstorming what can be created by using plastic spoon, we tried to connect it with modern fashion as more and more fashion brand has a serious collection of plastic accessories. However, we did not turn it into real projects because accessory is not a kind of household item, while the others projects that we created is in the household item category. Moreover, as people usually expect accessories to be eye-catching, fashionable and beautiful. If we make use of plastic spoon, we have to add additional decoration on it, like coating and coloring. Thus we think that it is not worth to create accessories by using plastic spoon.

Another project not chosen is using the straw rather than plastic spoon. We once have the idea of using straw because it is also a common household item which people never re-use it. However, we quickly reach to conclusion that using plastic spoon is more preferable. It was because straw is somehow too soft and easily be bent so it is not convenience for creating creative items. Moreover, our group did research on internet in our brainstorm stage. There are some similar creative objects that are created by plastic spoon. We are really inspired by those ideas and so we finally give up using straw.

  1. Thank you for sharing this great blog.

The first thing you need to change is the font size of the word. It is really difficult to read. Although your description about the uses of newspaper is clear, I think that the photo should be added; it can enhance our understanding and make us easy to remember. Also, I think that your team should think more objects which can create by spoon.

Regarding your idea, use spoon to make a bowl, I think this bowl is not so useful because it cannot carry the liquid like water. Also, if your bowl can carry solid things only, why don’t you just put the things on table? It seems that the bowl is useless. What do you think about my comment? Thank you

  2. Which is why it's called a fruit bowl...if you watched the video...not nessecerily for hold fruits...but you get the idea.. ... it's not made to carry liquids..... Your comment: "if your bowl can carry solid things only, why don’t you just put the things on table? It seems that the bowl is useless. What do you think about my comment?"

I think your comment is a bit narrow minded ..... The style we were inspired by is the simplicity of japanese designs, simplicity and sophistication.. they use strips of wood that forms their bowl, it is usually used to hold fried foods or dry foods. But in our case, we had to think more towards what the audience would use it for, so we thought of the idea of using it as a fruit bowl. But didn't have fruits at the time so replaced it with packaged food. Works the same way, the bowl is usually put on dining tables or coffee tables. So in relation to your comment,if our bowl is made to cary solid things only, why not put it on the table? because normal people dont do that... it will look cluttered and messy....our aim was to make living eco-friendly look contemporary, contemporary as in living in a modern way, thus the design our of bowl.

We decided to make come up with multiple uses for newpapers instead. So our focus on this bowl project is more focused on the purpose, whih was to show that something degarded or wasted can also be turned into something useful and contemporary, with a little creativity.

    Thanks for your comment

  3. Thank you for your sharing

First of all, your blog is difficult to read as your words are too small. It is better for you to change the front size of the words.

I like your idea of connecting spoons to become a fan. It is really interesting. However, I wonder whether the fan is work. I think the “spoons fan” is better use for decoration. Besides, I like your video because the background music is very soft and make me feel very comfortable when I was watching your video and I see your team work through the video.

However, I think your use many spoons to create a fruit bowl is not environmental friendly. I think you can try another way to use fewer spoons to create a bowl. I also do not think that the bowl is able to carry some small item. Anyway, I appreciate it in art point of view.

    Thank you for your reading

  4. Thank for sharing.

i do agree "brian" opinion, your group use a lot of spoons. it is quite conflict that you are motivated by eco-friendly but being not eco-friendly. But i apperciate it. It is very beautiful. And i think it can be a kind of art but not an eco-friendly product.

I doubt the one enabler of creativity that you mentioned. you mentioned that a comfortable environment is good for creativity. But actually many of artists finish their works when he/she are in very poor situation. Sometime I think a worst environment can be a motivation of our behavior as if the works are related to our benefit.

  5. Thank you for sharing the different use of newspaper and using spoon to create objects. I was very impressed by your metaphor: Greedy. It is very meaningful.

There should be no doubt that environment protection become important than before, especially the shortage of natural resources in the earth. I also agree that there are many ways to use newspaper, in rainy day, our shoes always get wet but we need to wear it one the next day, my mother then will use newspaper to dry the shoes. And after the rainy day, my father also uses newspaper to clean windows, then the windows become very clean!

However, I thought there should be have other uses of newspaper except the uses your group mentioned. For instance, we can use newspaper as a mat for cutting. Besides your group use plastic spoon to build another object, but it seems that it violate your motif. Although we discard the plastic spoon after using it once, in fact we can clean it and reuse it. If we can use so many spoons to build the fruit blow, why not we use it as normal use?

Furthermore, I thought the font size of your blog can be bigger, I found it is difficult to read. It will be much better if the size of word is larger =]

  6. Firstly, I would like to appreciate on your group’s metaphor “Greedy” which includes two meanings of cause and result relationship. It is able to arouse readers’ interest and stimulate our thinking. Because of greedy human nature, we do much harm for our earth. For example, people use plastic things to enjoy convenience but the non-dissolvable nature is harmful for the environment. Therefore, we need to have a green daily life to protect our earth, such as recycle some materials and save energy.

Your group has a great motive of contributing to the society, but I wonder how your group persuades households to use your idea of building a bowl by plastic spoons. The general public concerns about effectiveness and usefulness more than environment friendly usage. Once they find that the environmental-friendly bowls are not practical enough, they will not see the value on them and refuse to use.

Moreover, if companies are persuaded by your idea, collect and use spoons from fast food restaurants to produce bowls, people will concern about hygiene problem, especially Asians, because most of them do not want to use dishes which have been used by others before.

  7. Thank you for your sharing.

I really like your description of Group process. You also use your group as an example. It is clear to let others know the stages of the Group process. There is an advantage which is to make audiences to put more attention to understand your group process.
From reading your group process, we can learn the stages of the Group process as you described before. Since your last stage of Group process is to select all the best alternatives. In my point of view, it needs more follow -up stages .The Group process does not only include collection ideas and selection, but it also includes action.
We need to proof our ideas whether they work or not.

I also appreciate your creative ideas about reuse plastic spoon. People always have ideas to reuse paper , bottles , plastics bags and so on but there are few people have ideas to reuse plastic spoons. After I watched your video, I really put more attention on plastic spoons now. When I finished my lunches at canteen, I would take away plastic spoons. I want to collect plastic spoons to build a fruit bowl as one in your video. Therefore, I think your group really achieves your objection to remind people that something that looks useless can be transformed into something that is useful.

You group shows your enthusiasm to protect our environment. Your sharing can arise people's awareness to put effort to protect our earth.

  8. Thanks for sharing.

It is good that you show the clear steps and different stage in the group process. Also, it is convenient to the readers since you have lots of subtitle.

You should improve your blog design because it is not attractive, you do not show enough pictures and it looks too many words, so maybe you can use different colors and add more pictures.

You use lots of spoons to building a bowl, although it is special products since it mix spoon and bowl into one object, it waste lots of plastic spoons and it is not environmental friendly. Also, it contains lots of glue; it is not good to put some food on it.

I agree that physical environment blocks the creativity. I got a similar experience. When I having the management lecture, the lecture was too cold and we cannot concentrate what the lecturer said and the students were talking about the temperature and want to leave the lecture, so if we need to think some creativity ideas at that moment, I am sure that we cannot do it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. A lot of commentators in above did not like your group’s idea because it is not useful and used up a lot of spoons. Those spoons are just some useless objects in the reality so used up a lot of spoons doesn’t regard a big matter in the real world. Moreover, I think it would be interesting in the process of collection.

I am impressed by the creative idea of plastic
spoons from your group. People can collect different colors of spoons to make their bowl in the style they like. It’s a work of art. And it is awesome to place it at the coffee table. But I am concerned whether it is rigid enough. It seems to be easily broken by just putting a few of things on it. Anyway, it is a fascinating idea to combine art and green together.

Your video is nice. You guys make better use of the black and white at start and changed to be colorful at the end. It shows this product can be useful and sophisticated to audience. So we should apply your idea to our daily life. I really like that. By the way, I think you should put fruits and picture it rather than those packaged foods. Then audiences are able to know it is rigid enough to put fruits on it.

Thanks for sharing. i think your group has done a really good job on explaining and expressing your ideas of creatity.

It is very easy to read becoause you list out all points of each topic and subtitle, for example the environmental block for creativity.it is good for us, reader, because its a quickest way to let us capture the ideas.

Also, the step for u to make the item is also shown in details so we can imagine the whole process of the production in a in depth way.

and the video u made is very touching. it not only show your creativity but also the hormony team work spirit. it really a advantage for people to be more creative. because if we can solve the conflict between people, we can mix up more different ideas and that can contribute to creativity.

  11. To make the video more coherent with the overarching theme: Eco-ntemporary living: Green up your House, the modern way, you may like to use tones of green instead of black and white.

According to Jonathan Halls, creativity goes through three stages: dream, select and make it real. For the creative project (fruit bowl), it is good to understand your dreaming and selecting processes from the written explanations and to witness your "making it real" process in the video. I encountered that most of your efforts are focused on presenting your creative project (the fruit bowl). You may like to share more with your readers about your creative uses (of newspapers). I think they will be impressed if there are some graphical illustrations of the creative uses.

There is also a paradox about inventing more uses of newspapers and environmental protection: if there are some revolutionary breakthroughs in reusing newspapers and the demand for newspapers as a raw material grows, more trees will be logged off to meet increased demand. What constraints and observations in real world may make this hypothesis confirmed or rejected? You may like to express how your creativity helps promoting an eco-friendly life style.

Fianlly, for the cons of using group as a creativity tool, you mentioned "dominant leaders" as a con. For some groups, minority domination is a problem; for other groups, pressures to conform will be their problems. My opinion is, without a hygienic brainstorming environment (where criticisms and bannings are absent in the "dreaming" stage) and a predetermined criteria (for the "selecting" stage) agreed by all members, both minority domination and pressures to conform can murder best ideas. The procedures and processes of decision-making rather than the number of decision-makers in a group constitute the aforementioned problems. Therefore, when you seek a solution for minority domination, don't simply take voting or similar means as right choices, or you may encounter "pressure to conform" when you think that you have gotten rid of "minority domination".

  12. Thank you for sharing.

I think you guys create a brilliant blog. I love your video very much. I think it is quiet professional. Haha, it just likes the advertisement which shown in the television. Thank you for showing us a professional video.

I appreciate your “Fruit bowl” idea. It is awesome. I never think about it!!! How a bowl can be made by spoon??? Well, you make me very surprise. I think your design and idea really creativity and innovation. I believe that if you want to attract more audiences to remember your product, it is better give a dynamic name to your product.

However your topic is about environmental friendly, do you think your product really environmental friendly?? When you made your product, were you using the new spoon?? Or the old one?? Although your product is not really environmental friendly, you still do a good job. In the point of creativity, you are good!!!

For me, “Greedy” means selfish. After reading your blog, I have a new idea about “Greedy”. “Greedy” can mean “green daily”. It was quiet interesting. Before “Greedy” is a negative term, now it becomes a positive term. We need “Greedy”. Global warning become more and more critical, we need to “greedy” so that we can save the world. “Greedy” is easy to all of us. It is just a piece of cakes. We can re-use the plastic bottle and use the recycle bag rather than a plastic bag.

By the way, I think you can add some photos and more colors on you blog. Otherwise, people will feel bore when they are reading a long passage.

  13. The video of your group is really great and I beleived you must have spent a lot of time on it. It's really nice!

But at the same time, I believed that before you successfully make the finished product, you may had some failure. I wondered how many spoon did you guys really use. I do apprecate youe idea of "green up your house". But using the plastic spoon alone is not green already. I do not think u will reuse plastic spoons when you used them to finish your dinner and then to make the things in the video like the "plate" and "pencil pot". May be you have to buy extra plastic spoons to make them and then causes more wastes at last.

Also, as you mentioned, lack of motivation is one of the inhibitor, so how should we deal with it? Do you have any suggestion for us?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Thanks for your sharing.

Your structure is very clear and concise; it makes me easy to read. Also your video is cool, you show the process step by step, it is clear and reader-friendly. But I think more than 3 minutes may be too long, it is boring to read the whole video with colorless photos and the soft background music. So I suggest you can plug in some colorful photos and make the video shorter.

Moreover, I wonder that is it really environmental-friendly for your idea of using spoon? As the plastic cutlery is dirty after using it, it is difficult and indigestible to use the dirty spoons to make accessory. Just in your video, you use the new spoon to build your accessory, it is a waste actually. People use plastic cutlery aim for convenience, they will feel totally inconvenience to bring the used spoon home and clean it for creating something. So, I think your idea is impractical. On the contrary, we can persuade people to bring their own cutlery.

Anyway, your bowl is great, if not for environmental. Thanks for sharing such a creative design.

  15. thank you very much for sharing this.

I think that your group did an excellent job.

First by choosing spoons (stolen at the canteen? ;) ). As I said the blog of coins and buttons, it is simple object. It makes the the strength of your choice. Easy and daily life object. You can find it everywhere and use it! Nor expensive and you can be creative with! So good choise!

Secondly, your video is very well done. It liked your black and white pictures. I also appreciated that you explain step by step what you where doing. I thought that you were doing a fan. and I think that it would have being also a great idea. :)

Third : Great choise of the music in your video. I almost cried looking at spoons :). Very touching. The thing is also that we can see that you had fun doing it.

To finish I think that posting your video on youtube was a great idea. Because you can have a lot of viewers. So people might be inspirated by what you did and that is great! Good opportunity the enhance the creative thinking of people.

Thank you very much for your great job.

  16. Thank you for sharing. I think I have the same attitude with many of you.

Firstly , I really appreciate you that both of the website and the video is very easy to read. I always feel tired when I read a lot of words in the computer. But, it doesnt appear this time.

The ideas and the final products are quite creative in my mind. However, I would doubt that is it innovative enough (practical) in the reality. What I am concerned about is all about the environmental affairs.

Although the products you made may be durable, it is still environmatal unfriendly. So, I think you can a better idea for using spoons creatively and innovatively.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Your teams mention that the Extreme environment will discourage the creativity journey, but I think it depends on the attitude of the creator. As I know, some writers like to go hiking when they do not have any idea. Maybe it is something different from creating a new creation, but I see the meterph is the same. Therefore, some people may need some excitement to brainstorm their ideas. In conclude, I think extreme environment not only the inhibitor of creativity journey, it also can b e the enabler.

I agree that dominate leader will hinder the creativity. I think that it is because most of the dominate leader will have their own perception on ideas, they will always does not accept the point that they don’t like. They also do not like their teammates have different point of view with them. It really hinders creativity.

Do you think that your Metaphor “Greedy” can also be the inhibiter of your creativity journey? I guess that you must ban some interesting ideas that do not fit into this idea. As I see the creativity flow that you mentioned in the blog, your teams seem have been creating with objectives. I think creativity would come along with waste, because people are keep trying and trying. Many failures come with success.

  18. I love this blog...its so manages to portray what Frank has been going on for the past few weeks now. Your video is well developed and technically great.

However with the idea of using a spoon i dont really like. Personally i would never re use anything which i put in my mouth and is plastic just because of hygiene. A lot of bateria is carried on plastic utensils so the thought of reusing it puts me off. Even if one had to try and put these in hot boiling water they will probably melt as they are made of plastic.

Nonetheless, i love your blog and creativeness shown. Keep it up

  19. Thanks for your effort in making the video. I can see that you have put effort on doing this. However, I am not sure what you want to present with your video because it only consists of some words and pictures. It may be better if you can present some more ways of transforming the materials. Yet, the whole video is quite artistic and the final product looks great.

For the blog, the theory part is quite good because the organization of the theory is pretty well. You have pointed out the steps in individual and group thinking. Also, the theory is presented point by point. I can easily follow the points and understand the theory. It is helpful for you to put the reference and links in your blog so I can refer to those materials if I want a better understanding on certain points.

All in all, I am happy to read your blog. It would be more attractive if you can have more ideas on illustrating creativity in daily life. More photos can make your blog attractive. Thanks!

  20. It is a good idea for protecting the environment that reuse the used plastic spoons to build the objects. However, I doubt if your group are using the "USED" spoons or not. They seem new and like those supplied from the canteen. If this is really the case, I would say... your group is doing something really harmful to the world. I feel really sad seeing the whole table of spoons in your video because they required millions of years to be denatured.

And I think there is another view for the enabler, "resource". Your group think that enough resources is important to creativity. However, I think sometimes creativity comes from scarce resources. For example, the invention of congee was the result of lacking rice during drought periods. Then, people started to add more water to cook the rice so that less rice was needed to make people feel full. This is an example of creativity in scarcity of resources.

  21. Clear organization-
I particular liked the part “Inhibitors of creativity”, you tried to break down inhibitors into several aspects, such as environmental and cultural. That was clearly organized.
In addition, your layout was good because you numbered your ideas under the same heading and also you bolded your key ideas. Those were helpful presentation skills that promoted understanding.

Clear idea fully supported with evidence-
You quoted some sources when you applied something proposed by others with the link at the bottom. This was good because we could refer to the original for reference. On the other hand, not only did you quote some ideas from others, but also you gave examples that you made up on your own. For example, you said “How can you create your ideas when you are under -1℃environment without any protection?” This was stimulating and interesting, which I prefer to, when compared to just quoting extracts from others’ report.

    Good Coherence-
You did a good job in this regard because everything was about “Eco-ntemporary living”, ranging from procedure, inhibitors and actions! Readers were enabled to know what it was and then how they could make it actually. What you discussed next had answered my previous questions when I was reading your article. That encouraged me to keep reading till the end with curiosity and satisfaction.
